Glee is a television show on FOX Tuesdays at 8p.m.1 the show is about a high school glee club in Ohio. each week the teacher, Mr.Schuester gives the group a type of music or artist, and throughout the show different members sing songs relating to that weeks topic.
MULTIMEDIA INFLUENCE
Glee has generated multiple forms of multimedia throughout its seasons, the show has CDs, DVDs, a clothing line, it appears in magazines, it's talked about on the radio, and it's all over the internet. Glee uses older classic songs, and the cast performs them in a newer, more recent way. They have taken classic songs like "Dream On" and completely reinterpreted it, with Neil Patrick Harris as a guest star, this song was one of my favorites, two high school rivals competing for a role, as a blast from the past.
HOW GLEE FITS A GENRE
glee is a musical comedy-drama television series, every episode is full of comedy, drama and music, pretty self-explanatory.
GLEE's CREATOR
the creator of glee is Ryan Murphy, some of his most recent shows and movies are Glee, Nip/Tuck, and Eat Pray Love. He has written, produced, and directed movies and telivision shows since 1999.
AUTHOR's PURPOSE
In a recent issue of Rolling Stone2 he adressed that the show will be focusing more on bullying, since it is a growing problem for teens in America. This show is very relatable for teens, especially teens in high school, because most episodes deal with the characters facing problems that other teens may have. the show is realistic, and it makes it easier for the viewers to have a connection with the show.
GLEE's AUDIENCE
everyone watches glee! there is no specific demographic, it may be easier for teens currently in high school to relate to, but people of all ages watch glee. it is enjoyable for all generations, especially because most songs are older classic songs, although in more recent episodes the cast has been singing newer, more current songs. people that watch this show often call themselves gleeks, and this has become a popular phrase for the show.
HISTORICAL CONTEXT OF PUBLICATION
glee is about a struggle of power, and the glee club is the underdogs fighting to get recognition, and a higher social standing. the characters on glee get picked on, but they love to sing, and they are always there for eachother, throughout the show the characters who once wouldn't talk to eachother, have become friends.
